What Is an IB MYP Rubric?

An IB MYP rubric is a set of evaluation criteria that measures the growth of a student's knowledge and skills. For instance, a rubric for an essay assignment might look like this:

My essay demonstrates a perceptive understanding of the topic, has a clear thesis, and a variety of supporting details. My voice reflects a passion for the topic and an original viewpoint.

9--10 points

My essay demonstrates a good understanding of the topic, has a clear thesis, and supporting details. My voice comes through clearly but is somewhat clinical or dull.

7--8 points

My essay demonstrates a clear thesis but lacks sufficient supporting details. The voice I use is inappropriate for a formal paper.

5--6 points

Using rubrics eliminates the guesswork for students by clarifying the objective of the assignment and the evaluation standards. Students are aware of the criteria against which they are assessed and are provided with clear markers of expected achievement.
